Little Joy is Binki Shapiro, Rodrigo Amarante (Singer/Guitarist of Los Hermanos) and Fabrizio Moretti (drummer of The Strokes). While you’re waiting for the The Strokes’ new album, listen to this band. Take heed that Little Joy has stripped off affiliations from any band’s style, their sound is original.

Bon Iver is to release new EP this January, entitled “Blood Bank” and will consist of four songs, yes, only four songs. He had one of the most unforgettable albums this year so hopefully, “Blood Bank” is set to transfixed us yet again.

Cut out all the ropes and let me fall

What pushes these songs past mere worship involves cunning collisions of robust rhythm, caressing noise, and heavenly melody, with each element equally crucial. Psychedelic. Alpinism. Modern individualist. School of Seven Bells.

I blinked to see polite ghosts fading quickly

This was sent to me a couple of months ago but ignored it til now. You know how it is. Im not so much of a fan of “Fascination” but “Quicksand” is such a gem so maybe I should give her a chance. She is predicted by music critics to pave way into the scene for 2009 along with slightly resembling contender, Little Boots.

Im guilty with this one. I only heard “Cross the Dancefloor” and it entirely blew my mind and left it soaking on the edge of sanity. You should check it out.

Charlyn Marie Marshall or Chan is the name under Cat Power. She started performing way back on 1994. Chan disappeared from the musical scene after that, planning to permanently retire from music but during a sleepless night resulting from a nightmare, she started writing songs again. She just released “The Greatest”, consisting of her versions of classic songs.

This synth-pop trio has an intriguing name since they are a Brooklyn-base band. Blogs have been circulating remix tracks of Au Revoir Simone along with their love for the band. Powered by vintage keyboards, a lockstep beat box, and gorgeous, wide-eyed warbling, the Simones create make-out music for your inner android. What? I think, they mean these remixed tracks are lovely as hell.

The Chunk of Change was originally put together as a Valentine’s Day present to Angelakos’ girlfriend. After being prompted to send it to others, the production of the brief, sporadic, and explosive recording of the EP followed. It worked towards the development of Angelakos’ signature euphoric and blissfully melancholic sound. Thus, Passion Pit was born.

MUST DISCOVER ARTISTS VOL. IV

Let’s just make this clear. I do not render artists in this category to better than the ones I post singly. Filtering what’s awesome among rubble and rubble of popular indie music and alike is my hope.

Emiliana Torrini
I reckon you know I like Torrini. A female songstress and folk-pop songs?
Go ahead, I imagine everyone loves her by now.+/-

Emilana cheerfully describes being sat with a friend in a cemetery in Nice, staring at the gravestones and huge epitaphs; “these beautiful angels and tombstones, how silly – that’s all life comes to. People really want to believe there is something more, it makes them lazy about the moment”.

On a mission for my summer kiss
I close my eyes and wet my lips
But then I miss
And you laugh at my face

Me and Armani
Jungle Drum
Big Jumps
Unemployed in Summertime

Mr. Oizo
I kept exchanging Dr. from Mr. Dr. Oizo. If that’s the case, I suppose the effect would be much different, like hearing the almost drug-induced “Bruce Willis is Dead” after. Even though the track gives me the creeps, I think there are far more dance-induced songs of Dr. Oizo. He is epic.

Though it’s a sure bet he’ll linger in the minds of most only for his omnipresent Levi’s advert and 1999 European chart-topper “Flat Beat,” music-video director Quentin Dupieux turned in some excellent electronic productions as Mr. Oizo.

Jo
Cut Dick
Two Takes It
Little Bit Of Feel Good Remix (Jamie Lidell)

Department of Eagles
A band who spends roughly four years to finished an album (Ear Park) must be something. I have been ignoring this band for months but their songs are unbrokenly shoved in front of my face. What did I learned? Department of Eagles creates trancing songs conveying the simple pleasure and mystique of life.

Ear Park is a colorful and expansive album, an intimate and personal collection of songs; much of the material that Daniel brought to In Ear Park draws on memories from his childhood, especially those relating to his father, who passed away in 2007 and to whom the album is dedicated. Many of Fred’s contributions relate to similar themes of nostalgia and mortality, giving the album at times an elegiac feel. Ear Park is also full of joyful moments, lush production and concise songwriting.

And in the morning comes
You don’t need to breathe so easy

No One Does It Like You
Teenagers
The Horse You Ride
Sailing By Night

MUST DISCOVER ARTISTS VOL. III- Rediscover Jenny Lewis, Kings of Leon, Fleet Foxes, Metronomy and Ryan Adams

Let’s face it, when you choose songs from your favorite artists, the best to boot are their classics. Take KOL for example… Molly’s Chamber for me, will stay forever even though their hairstyles wont (lol). Its the drums, the drums, the drums… Kudos also to them along others who continue to make original music. How do they do it without being sucked to the prevailing dimension?

Of Montreal

Of Montreal (formed in 1997) are an indie pop band from Athens, Georgia, United States, fronted by Kevin Barnes.
They were among the second wave of groups to emerge from The Elephant 6 Recording Company and the group has a style that is typical of many Elephant 6 bands due to their interest in combining musical experimentation with the basic tenets of pop i.e. catchy melodies and sing-along choruses. The band’s style has been influenced by conventional indie pop, psychedelic music, vaudeville and music hall on their earlier releases and by afrobeat, funk, krautrock and reggae on their recent releases.

Formed at Syracuse University in January 2006, Ra Ra Riot is an amorphous blob (read as: band) that consists of seven highly dedicated individuals, each bringing her/his own experiences as both people and musicians to the metaphorical table. They are dedicated to moving people physically and mentally as a means of affecting positive micro/macro cosmic change. Ra Ra Riot spends its time shaking the hands of foreign dignitaries, practicing, playing shows, eating pizza, writing strange band bios that sound like college application essays and going about the business of everyday life.

Okkervil River
Photobucket

Okkervil River began as a mutual project of Will Sheff (vocals, guitar), and Seth Warren (guitar). They met and collaborated together when both were still in high school in Meriden, NH. After relocating to Austin, TX in the late 90’s, the duo decided to re-assemble the band with the addition of Zachary Thomas (vocals, bass), Jonathan Meiburg (vocals, banjo), and drummer Mark Pedini. In 1998, the group self-released their first disc, the “Bedroom” (EP), followed a year later with their debut album “Stars too Small to Use”. During the succeeding years, the band regularly played live on numerous occasions, including an appearance at the South by Southwest festival in 2000. The group’s second album, Don’t Fall in Love With Everyone You See, showed up in 2002, re-affirming the band’s cult following all over the Texas music scene. Since that time, Okkervil River has released a few more full-length albums and several EPs. On April 17, 2006, Okkervil River signed with Virgin/EMI in Europe. On August 7, 2007, the band released their fifth full-length, entitled “The Stage Names,” released, again, on Jagjaguwar. Pitchfork identified the album as “Okkervil River’s most emotionally devastating record yet, and without doubt one of the year’s best.”

Sit down, sit down on the proud wave bye, there might not be another star, farther on the line. Look out, look out at each town that glides by, and there’s another crowd, to drown in crying eyes. And see how that light you love now just won`t shine, there might just be another star, that`s high and far in some other sky.

The Deer Tracks
Photobucket

The Deer Tracks is David Lehnberg & Elin Lindfors, both children of Gävle, Sweden. Despite their earlier success with respective projects (Leiah, Ariel Kill Him & Twiggy Frostbite), all roads led them into this electromagnetic mist of melodies. And so, around the shift of 06/07, they met to shape electro landscapes just as sparkling as the rime that sheeted the long and hard winter nights. Now streaming from this coalition is the tender sadness of the north, coated in its northern lights. Electrifying vibrations meets a gentle forest, where tracks of magic leaves shaped patterns. The castaway’s last hope, a message in a bottle drifting against the stream.

A young boy’s journey from his house to the outer edges of civilization. Star filled skies, forests of birch trees with rich colorful palettes that fill the screen.

MUST DISCOVER ARTISTS

Different artists have been surfacing in the blog world lately. Others are extraordinarily good and some are…mediocre or too much indie. I have even featured others here. Now, Im giving you a rundown of some and their tracks with their latest album. Do they deserved the fuss? You find out.

Not in particular order.

Ladyhawke is Pip Browne, a 26 year old New Zealander. After spending time in Sydney in various bands, she has upped sticks even further still, and now resides in London. As a music-obsessed child with very musical parents (step-father a drummer, mother a singer), she soaked up everything from the 70’s and 80’s. From Stevie Nicks and Joan Jett to Nirvana and Hole with Van Halen and Deep Purple in between. The result is a refreshing blend of rock, dance and classic song writing. As well as writing PlayBack of the Van, Pip also plays the drums, guitar and synth on the track.

CSS owes a lot of its success to word-of-mouth promotion on the internet, starting with the Trama Virtual website, a kind of Brazilian MySpace. A live performance in 2004 at Tim Festival on the same stage as 2 Many DJ’s and Kraftwerk increased their fanbase. In 2005, they signed with trama virtual and in October of the same year their first album was released in Brazil.
